Chronic Kidney Disease
10% of the population worldwide is affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD). (1)
More than 1 in 7, that is 15% of US adults—37 million people—are estimated to have CKD. (2)
More than 661,000 Americans have kidney failure. Of these, 468,000 individuals are on dialysis, and roughly 193,000 live with a functioning kidney transplant. (3)
1 in 2 people with very low kidney function who are not on dialysis do not know they have CKD.(4)
Dialysis
In the US, At the end of 2018, home dialysis utilization stood at 12.5% of all dialysis patients, with nearly 85% of patients on home dialysis performing peritoneal dialysis. (2)
The number of US patients who initiated peritoneal dialysis in 2018, for the treatment of ESRD, reached 14,334 — the largest number ever observed and an increase of approximately 11% since 2017. (2)
